Montreal - Wednesday, May 30, 2018

More than 100 parents, representing the EMSB youth sector, attended an event on May 28th.  Each school was asked to send four parent representatives from their respective Governing Boards.

The focus of this meeting was to seek suggestions from parents on what priorities the EMSB should keep in mind when allocating Ministry funds for the maintenance or repairs of schools for the 2018-19 academic year and beyond. Participants took part in preliminary discussions with their respective Governing Boards on how these funds could be allocated to improve the condition of each building. According to Ministry parameters, these monies are intended primarily for renovations and repairs and cannot be used for the demolition, rebuilding and/or the expansion of buildings.

Some examples of maintenance and repair projects include: washroom renovations, schoolyard and parking lot renovations, landscaping, replacement of floor tiles, electrical work, heating control repairs, existing air conditioning replacements (no new systems or enlargements allowed), replacement of windows, replacement of roofs and  replacement of interior doors.
