Mini Pont-Pop Competition LaurenHill Bound

Montreal - Thursday, May 10, 2018

Spanning the canyons between classroom desks, 70 student-designed bridges are going to be put to the ultimate test at LaurenHill Academy (2505 Cote Vertu) in St. Laurent on  Thursday, May 17 (8:30 am)  at the Mini Pont-Pop competition.

Based on the university level competition at the École de Technologie Supérieur (ÉTS), Grade 9 students, along with competition founder Richard Sicotte, studied the theory behind bridge construction in order to conceive and build a bridge that will attempt to withstand the forces from a hydraulic press.

The competition is being run for the first time at the English Montreal School Board and combines numerous STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) disciplines. Winning teams will be awarded prizes and trophies for their designs.
